Description of Work

We seek a talented graphic designer/production assistant to join our creative team of artists to support a Navy client. Ideal candidates have an active Secret security clearance and previous communications work experience for the federal government, preferably defense. Selected personnel will report to the Washington Navy Yard in SE, Washington, D.C.

Major Job Activities:

– Leverage independent judgment to use the principles of design as well as written or verbal instructions from the design team to create original art and design content

– Collaborate with other designers and the client to clearly communicate design concepts, issues, and concerns from the inception phase of a unique design or product through ideation, development, iteration, and finalization

– Utilize past design experience and creative ingenuity to produce custom deliverables and products for NAVSEA stakeholders

– Bring new and imaginative ideas to the communications team to further enhance the development and design of digital and multimedia products

– Perform all necessary production work, including cutting, mounting, framing, biding, building-up, gluing, engraving, and other activities

– Use a variety of media formats (CD, external hard drives, etc.) and software (Adobe Creative Cloud, MS Office)

– Understand 4 color (CMYK & Pantone) print process as well as how color enhances artistic renderings

– Quickly learn and be able to use design production equipment (i.e., laminators, DC duplicators, Plokmatic publication machines [GBC and perfect binding], engravers [both laser/rotary])

– Format and layout designs in accordance with designer and customer specifications

– Catalog images using proper naming file format

– Adhere to office and NAVSEA design and production policies and procedures and complete reports as needed

– Schedule and conduct client photoshoots, maintain, and manage photography equipment, edit photos, submit photos to appropriate persons (hard-copy or digital), and manage photography sessions; provide back-up photographer support as needed

– Provide courteous, on-demand customer service, superb team collaboration, and workflow

– Greet walk-in customers and provide coverage as needed
